Midlands Development;
A total of 81.2% of all area employers have been in business
more than 5 years, with 61.0% in business for more than 10
years. This points to considerable stability in the economic
climate of the area.
Most businesses in all sectors have seen strong sales
growth over the last three years, with 62.1% reporting
increased sales, compared to only 12.6% reporting declining
sales. Some 23.0% of firms experienced more than 20% growth
in sales during this period. The strongest sales growth was
in the manufacturing sector, followed closely by the primary
sector and the transportation/communications/utilities
sector.
Business suppliers and markets are very much locally
oriented. Some 54.6% of all businesses obtain more than half
their supplies locally, with another 8.3% obtaining more
than half their supplies from elsewhere in Simcoe County and
Muskoka. Similarly, 78.6% of businesses generate more than
half of their revenues within the catchment area.
